Endless Summer - Clearwater
If you follow my IG, you know that I've been taking advantage of the beautiful weather we get during winter in Florida. Based on my first week of making this blog public, I've seen there are readers all over so even though it's springtime and many places are beginning to thaw, I thought I'd share some real summertime vibes with you all.
Full disclosure, I have never experienced a real winter. Spending most of my life in Northern California meant that winter usually consisted of about a month of temperatures in the 60s and intermittent rain. But even that is more winter weather than we get here in Florida. So as often as we get the chance, we pack up a beach blanket and cooler and find a vacant sandy spot.
Clearwater Beach was just voted the #1 Beach in the US by Trip Advisor so I was excited to check it out! It was about 45 minutes from our front door to the sand and most of that drive was along the beautiful coast. The drawback of visiting the best beach in the US? The beach was super crowded! But you know the old saying is true:
A bad day at the beach is always better than a good day at work.
So what is Clearwater beach like? It's on the Gulf of Mexico, which is on the west coast of Florida. The Gulf is also home to two other beaches on the top 10 list by Trip Advisor. It has fine, white sand. The waves are small and the water is shallow like the other beaches I've seen along the Gulf. There are lots of restaurants and beach resorts in the area so there's no shortage of fun places to walk to from the beach and shop or eat.
We walked to one end of the beach just before sunset and had dinner on the patio of Sandbar Grill restaurant at the Opal Sands Resort. The patio faces west so we got the best view of the sunset-- something Floridians take very seriously! When the sun starts to set, phones and cameras are pulled out and everyone faces west. The hustle stops for 15 minutes and everyone enjoys the view.
For those of you who are in winter recovery, I hope this post gives you some happy thoughts! It is officially spring, which means summer is right around the corner! Stay strong, friends. And any time you need a mental vacation on the beach, come back to my blog for more sand and sun.
